Pickering’s Gin is based on an original Bombay recipe, dated 17th July, 1947. Kept as a family secret for over 66 years before being brought to life by their stills- Emily & Gertrude.
In 2015 Pickering’s Gin became the official gin of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo when they launched our Navy Strength gin, each topped with a bearskin hat.
“A splash of tartan” was the theme of the Tattoo in 2017 and this saw the first limited release of this gin in a tartan clad, 35cl bottling.
In early August 2021 we re-released this gin in a bottle twice its previous size with a more environmentally sensitive label design.
Adding Scots Pine, Bog Myrtle, Heather and Milk Thistle to their classic botanicals of juniper, anise, angelica, cardamom, cloves, coriander, fennel, lemon and lime created a gin full of complexity and character. A juniper forward gin that introduces robust Scots pine and delicately floral notes, which are followed by zesty citrus, that then continues onto the complexity of the sweet warming spices of the fennel, anise, cardamom and cloves. The perfect balance of bitter, sweet, floral and spice. What more could you ask for in a gin?
A recommended serve
Perfectly paired with an Indian tonic, freshly sliced green apple and a bramble or two.
About the Distiller
When they opened Summerhall Distillery, it was the first exclusive gin distillery to be established in Edinburgh for over 150 years. They built the distillery from scratch, right in the heart of Edinburgh, in an old derelict dogs kennel from the small animal hospital that once stood.
