De Havilland Gin

This is a newly launched gin (September 2021) from De Havilland Gin. It is inspired by the first commercial jet flight to Johannesburg in a, you guessed it, De Havilland Comet.

It brings together botanicals from the shores of England, and the high plans of the South African Highveld. It aims to invoke a real sense of adventure and exploration.

It's botanicals include South African buchu, honeybush leaves and devil's claw alonside more traditional ingredients like orange peel and elderflower.

Juniper (obviously), buchu leaves, lion's tail (not literally), devil's claw, orange peel, cucumber, honeybush tea, elderflower and angelica root.

Very well done if you guessed some of these!

A Recommended Serve

Hiru (the founder) is a great fan of a classic G&T so he recommends a trying this with 3 extra large ice cubes in a short glass with Fentimans light tonic water with a slice of cucumber.

About the Distiller

De Havilland Gin was founded by Hiru. He fulfilled his dream of becoming a long haul pilot and (now things are getting slightly more normal) continues to fly to new places where he can discover exciting new ingredients whilst also promoting his delicious new gin.

As a long time gin aficionado he decided the grounding of planes during COVID, and his threatened career, was the perfect time to get cracking with a gin that celebrates aviation and it's ability to bring new flavours to our shores. Speaking with Hiru he has all sorts of exciting gin plans continuing the theme of combining botanicals from around the world with some of our more classic ones.
